[drraw-users] how do I create a template?

Good Afternoon,
I have been working for several days to try to get a template to do what I
want it to do with no success so far, and I am beginning to wonder if
perhaps I am misunderstanding what templates can or should do. I have
searched high and low for an example of a template, but the only one I can
find (on the wiki) doesn't really shed the light I need. So, let me explain
what I am after, and perhaps someone can either tell me it is not possible,
or tell me where I am going wrong.
I have many (about 800 or so) RRD files named like so (for example):
/router/gw-routername1/gw-routername1-serial0.rrd
/router/gw-routername1/gw-routername1-fast-ethernet0.rrd
/router/gw-routername2/gw-routername2-serial0.rrd
/router/gw-routername2/gw-routername2-serial1.rrd
/router/gw-routername2/gw-routername2-ethernet0.rrd
/router/gw-routername3/gw-routername3-cable-modem0.rrd
/router/gw-routername3/gw-routername3-fast-ethernet0.rrd
/router/gw-routername3/gw-routername3-vlan1.rrd
I am trying to create a template so a user can select a router by name and
be presented with graphs for that router including all the ifInOctets and
ifOutOctets for the various interfaces. The attached image drraw-templ1.jpg
is the configuration I have tried (well, I have tried many variations, but
this is one that seems to me should work, but doesn't); the full base
expression is: "router/.+/(gw-.+<domain
name>)-((fast|ser|atm|ether|tun|cab|vlan).+).rrd". This configuration does
present a list of routers to select from as I had hoped. I tested it, and
$2 does properly match the interface name as I wanted. However, no matter
what router you select from the template you get a graph as seen in the
attached drraw-templ2.jpg. I have no idea where the data for these graphs
is coming from, but it certainly doesn't make sense for the T1-connected
sites I am looking at, and in any case the graph is the same regardless of
which router you choose. I should add that if I simply create a graph page,
choosing specific RRD files, that works fine and graphs correctly.
In case attachments aren't allowed here and the images get stripped, I put
them online here: http://jay.unet.maine.edu/awhenry/drraw-templ1.jpg,

Thanks for any guidance anyone can provide. I would be happy to provide
more information if needed.
